Graduate Level Audit Policy
Registration Status Change
Credit to Audit or Pass/Fail Option
Students who register in distance education courses must abide by the same academic policies & procedures as on-campus students, including the policies that govern taking courses for audit or exercising the pass-fail option. These policies are found online at http://www.ncsu.edu/policies/academic_affairs/courses_undergrad/REG02.20.15.php. You are expected to contact your instructor by the start of the semester to be certain you understand his/her criteria for meeting the requirements to receive audit recognition or pass credit.
Add a Course (Post Deadline)
Students wishing to add a course after the "last day to register" deadline may do so by following the procedure listed below. Please view the academic calendar for the deadline date. For more information and to view the policy online, please visit: http://www.ncsu.edu/policies/academic_affairs/courses_undergrad/REG02.20.2.php
Degree students wishing to add a course after the deadline have to fill out a Schedule Revision form and obtain Dean approval & signature and submit form to Registration & Records office.
Non-degree students wishing to add a course after the deadline need to contact the Distance Education office.
Drop a Course
Students wishing to drop a course before the deadline may do so by login into Pack Tracks with the PIN#. Please view the semester academic calendar for the deadline date.
Degree students wishing to drop a course after deadline have to fill out a schedule revision form and obtain Dean approval & signature and submit form to Registration & Records office.
Non-degree students wishing to drop a course after the deadline need to contact the Distance Education office.
Semester Withdrawal
Withdrawal is defined as dropping all of your classes for the semester.
It is considered that after the last day of the official drop period a student has become a partner in an implied contract with the University to continue until the end of the semester. Therefore, withdrawals without academic penalty are granted only when exceptional circumstances exist.
It is important to note that the official drop period ends on the last day to drop a course without a grade. Consult the Academic Calendar to determine the last day of the official drop period for a particular semester or summer session. If you wish to withdraw (i.e., drop ALL your classes for the semester) after this date, you will have to provide documentation of medical or personal hardship. Withdrawal may be denied if documentation is not received or is not adequate.
Non-degree students wishing to withdraw from all their course work must contact the Distance Education office and complete the withdrawal form for non-degree students. (Spring 2007 Form)(Summer 2007 Form)
Degree students wishing to withdraw from all their course work must contact the University Counseling Center to initiate the process and obtain the required withdrawal forms.
Extension Requests
Extensions, a commitment to complete the course by a date mutually agreeable to you and your instructor, are granted by the instructor and are only given for extenuating circumstances. If your course is media based (DVD) a course completion date must be set with written notification provided to the student by the instructor. It is then the student’s responsibility to provide the Distance Education office with this extension confirmation so that the media return date may be adjusted. You may forward the instructors permission along with your name, student ID and the course you are taking to distance_ed@ncsu.edu. Materials must be returned after your course completion date to avoid losing your deposit or a hold being placed on your account.
Graduate Level Audit Policy
The audit policy that applies to campus-based graduate level courses DOES NOT apply to graduate level Distance Education Courses. DE courses are funded separately from campus-based courses and therefore have a separate registration and billing process.
