Focus on Paper Science or Wood Products
The Master of Wood and Paper Science Program is designed to address the needs of professionals employed in the wood products, paper, and allied industries. Thirty credit hours are required for the off-campus Masters’ Degrees, in the case of students having one or more years of relevant industrial experience. Thirty-six credit hours are required for students having no employment experience related to the field of study. It is expected that most students will be able to complete the requirements in three years.
The distance learning-based Masters Degree is designed to meet personal career objectives and meet the needs of the industry. Enrolled students will be able to maintain their current job while pursuing this degree. Employees will be able to apply the knowledge they gain from courses and the independent project to their positions. This will enhance the value of students as employees as they continue to participate in this program. In addition to the degree program, students also may enroll in individual courses that can be helpful for their careers and for their employers.
Admission:
There is a departmental requirement that you as a student must apply and be accepted by the Graduate School for the Masters of Wood and Paper Science program before enrolling in your third course in the program. Please plan ahead, since the application process usually takes 2 to 4 months.
In addition to the Departmental rules, the University has set a limit of no more than 12 transfer credits from any source that can be counted towards your NC State University Masters degree. That includes NC State courses that you might take before applying and being accepted into the degree program. If in doubt, it is usually to your advantage to apply and get admitted to the program right away.
Students can apply to the Graduate School online: http:www2.acs.ncsu.edu/grad/. Though each application is considered individually, there are some general guidelines governing admission to the distance education Masters program. Applicants are expected to have completed a four-year bachelor's degree program from an accredited college or university. Applicants are expected to supply grade transcript information. If a Graduate Record Exam (GRE) has been taken, that information can be supplied; however the GRE is not required for distance education applicants. Recommendation letters are requested in the application.
