The University Certificate in Agricultural Leadership is a 12-credit undergraduate program designed for individuals interested in leadership. Students have opportunities to develop the skills, competencies and theoretical understandings necessary to work independently and as part of a team, communicate effectively, solve problems, and understand basic organizational concepts.

Coursework includes topics covering an introduction to leadership theory, personal leadership development, team leadership, organizational leadership skills and professional presentations. The certificate seeks to motivate present and future leaders to develop leadership skills needed across industries and in all communities.

Eligibility

Students enrolled at North Carolina State University who are in good academic standing are eligible for admission to this certificate program. In addition, non-degree students in good academic standing may enroll in the program. Students who have completed the minor in Leadership in Agriculture and Life Sciences are not eligible for the University Certificate in Agricultural Leadership.

Plan of Study

The University Certificate in Agricultural Leadership requires 12 undergraduate credit hours (four courses). Students pursuing only the university certificate program are considered non-degree studies (NDS) students for the purpose of university registration. NDS students may register for a maximum of six credit hours per semester. Thus, the certificate may take from two to four semesters to complete.

A minimum grade of “C-” is required for each course. Students who have completed the minor in Leadership in Agriculture and Life Sciences are not eligible for the University Certificate in Agricultural Leadership.

Leadership skills are in high demand in all sectors of the economy, including agricultural industries. Individuals with leadership skills are sought for both entry-level and advancement up career ladders. Designed for students interested in careers in leadership positions across industries, the undergraduate certificate program serves NC State campus students as well as community college students and adults employed in agriculture or other industries.
