Undergraduate Minor in Agricultural Business Management

Description

The minor in Agricultural Business Management provides students with the opportunity to learn basic business and economic principles that are useful in careers in agricultural and related industries. The minor is not a free-standing program; it must be combined with an undergraduate major at NC State University. It is available to NC State University degree-seeking undergraduate students, with the exception of students majoring in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics.

The minor in Agricultural Business Management teaches basic business and economic principles that are useful for careers in agricultural and related industries.

Curriculum
(What will I learn?)

Five courses (15 credit hours) are required for the ABM minor.

Required Course:

  • ARE 201 Introduction to Agricultural and Resource Economics (3 credit hours)

In addition to ARE 201, four additional courses (12 credit hours) are required to complete the minor. The following courses offered via Distance Education may be used to complete the requirements for the minor:

  • ARE 215 Small Business Accounting (3)
  • ARE 303 Farm Management (3)
  • ARE 304 Agribusiness Management (3)
  • ARE 306 Agricultural Law (3)
  • ARE 309 Environmental Law and Economic Policy (3)
  • ARE 312 Agribusiness Marketing (3)
  • ARE 332 Human Resource Management for Agribusiness (3)

The following Distance Education courses outside of ARE also meet ABM minor requirements:

  • ACC 200 Introduction to Managerial Accounting (3)
  • ACC 210 Concepts of Financial Reporting (3)
  • BUS 225 Personal Finance (3)
  • MIE 330 Human Resources Management (3)

NOTE: While the ABM minor may be completed via Distance Education, not all of the courses that are eligible to count towards the campus-based ABM minor are offered via DE.

Prior to registration for their final semester, students must complete an application for a Minor in Agricultural Business Management and submit it to Dr. Arnold Oltmans, Undergraduate Program Coordinator, Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics, 3304 Nelson Hall, 919-515-7727.

Prior to their graduation semester, students are encouraged to contact the Distance Education (DE) ABM minor coordinator to verify that they are on track to complete the minor. Students are also encouraged to review other requirements including GPA requirements.

Students register for ABM minor courses as part of their semester registration.
