Training and Development MEd
The Master of Education degree in Training and Development is designed for entering or experienced training professionals who work in internal or external training positions in business, industry, education, military, government, and non-profit institutions. The program is structured around a core body of knowledge in adult education and the principles and theories of human performance improvement. The curriculum builds advanced understandings and skills in program design and the applications of learning theory incorporating principles, research, and practice. Individuals completing this master’s program will have sufficient professional knowledge and skill for entry or advancement in instructional design, and instructional, administrative, or evaluation positions that involve performance-based training.
The entire 36-credit program is available to students through distance delivery. The only required on-campus attendance is a 1-day on-campus orientation, which can be waived under certain circumstances. While the degree program will be offered on-line, it is built on principles of adult learning emphasizing interaction, collaboration and team learning. It is also designed primarily for the working adult completing graduate studies on a part-time basis. Students with baccalaureate degrees from any accredited institution may apply for admission. The degree does not require a thesis but culminates in a capstone paper or project. Students complete the identified courses through continuous enrollment (excluding summer sessions) until degree requirements are met. New students are accepted two times per year. The deadlines are January 20 for fall admission and August 20 for spring admission.
Admissions:
1. Submit an Intent to Enroll Form at http://tdonline.ncsu.edu/apply.html. Submitting the form does not commit the person to apply and is not required to be admitted into the program. However, those students filing the form and who meet minimum admissions requirements will be given priority in admissions decisions. Please complete the online form.
2. Submit Materials for Graduate School - As a part of the application process, applicants collect information about their academic professional experiences and submit it to the university. A complete description of the preparation and submission of materials for the Graduate School can be found on the departmental application page.
3. Submit Materials for Department - In addition, the Department of Adult andHigher Education requires your attention to the following materials:
- Three reference letters and forms
- A summary of proposed program goals and future outcomes
- Resume
