Business and Marketing Education Initial Licensure Program
Description
The Initial Licensure Program (ILP) in Business and Marketing Education is a 12-credit-hour online program consisting of three courses in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. It is designed specifically for provisionally licensed teachers currently teaching in the public school system. This program is taught entirely online. No campus visits are required.
Career prospects
(What can I do with this program of study?)
This licensure program is designed specifically for provisional licensed teachers currently in the classroom teaching business and marketing courses in the middle and secondary public schools. Students who complete the program are qualified to be licensed by the State of North Carolina as business and marketing education teachers (grades 6-12). These licenses are part of the state's licenses in Career and Technical Education.
Curriculum
(What will I learn?)
Course requirements for ILP include:
- ECI 561 Curriculum and Instruction in Business and Marketing Education (3 credit hours)
- ECI 562 Business and Marketing Education Program Management (3)
- ECI 657 Internship in Business and Marketing Education (6)
ECI 657 is a fieldwork (internship) course. It has an internet seminar component in addition to a supervised work experience. The student continues to work at his/her own school while a university supervisor is assigned to evaluate the actual practice in the classroom.
Occasionally, a student may be deficient in content or specialty area course work preparation. When this situation exists, additional courses will be identified and recommended.
Summer Courses:
Students in need of additional hours to maintain employment should contact us for summer course offerings. These courses do NOT count toward licensure, but will satisfy county employment requirements.
Admissions requirements
(Is this the program for me? How do I apply?)
Admissions requirements for the ILP include:
- Employed as a Lateral Entry (provisional license) teacher in a school system
- A bachelor's degree in business, marketing, business or marketing education, or related area from an accredited college or university
- Overall GPA of at least 2.5
Plan of study
(How much time will it take?)
This licensure program requires 12 credit hours. All three courses are currently offered in Fall and Spring semesters, so the ILP could be completed within a year if there are no other required courses in the content area. Students must make a minimum grade of a B in both ECI 561 and ECI 562 to continue in the program.
Each student must submit a completed Licensure Plan.
Registration information
(When can I start?)
Once students have been accepted into the ILP, they will have a University classification of College of Education-Undesignated (ED UN). This classification determines their registration appointment.
Students may begin taking courses for the certificate in Fall or Spring.
