Agricultural and Extension Education Graduate Programs
The Department of Agricultural and Extension Education offers two programs of graduate study through distance education. The first offering is a teacher education certification program in agriculture. Students who have a baccalaureate degree in an agricultural discipline or closely related field can be admitted to the program. At the completion of the program (which is typically 24 semester hours in length), the student receives a Graduate Certificate and a North Carolina Teaching License. Because of reciprocity agreements with other states, this teaching certificate is honored in about 40 other states. This certification program is known as LEAP (Licensure in Education for Agricultural Professionals).
The second distance education program is the Master’s of Agricultural Education degree. This is a 100% online Master’s degree. This degree program is designed for agricultural teachers, extension agents and other professionals in agriculture who are involved in education in either formal or informal settings. The degree is 36 semester hours in length. The student may start the program in the Fall, Spring or Summer Sessions. Once a student is admitted to the program, the student has six years to complete the program starting with the first course that is to be counted. The student is free to pursue the degree at his/her own pace. Many students take only one course a semester while others may take 3-4 courses (recommended only for students who plan to pursue the degree full time). This degree program is known as GRAEDE (Graduate Agricultural and Extension Distance Education).
