Engineering Online: Two-Plus-Two and Pre-Engineering Programs
The College of Engineering has partnered with several educational institutions to offer 2+2 and Pre-Engineering programs where students can enroll at a home institution taking general education, science and mathematics courses while also enrolled in engineering courses offered via distance education by NC State. These programs are site-based at various locations in North Carolina and have been offered for several years at the University of North Carolina in Asheville, University of North Carolina at Wilmington, Lenoir Community College, and Craven Community College, Havelock campus. Pre-engineering programs are now being offered in partnership with Johnston Community College in Smithfield and these community colleges in the Rocky Mount area: Wilson Technical Community College , Halifax Community College, Nash Community College, and Edgecombe Community College . After completion of two to four semesters, students can transfer to the Raleigh campus to complete a four-year degree in engineering or computer science. Community college students are encouraged to complete the AS degree before transferring to the Raleigh campus.
Two four-year degree programs have been established for students who cannot because of geographical or employment reasons attend classes on the Raleigh campus. The Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE) with a concentration in mechatronics is available at UNCA in Asheville and the Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a concentration in mechanical and aerospace engineering is available in Havelock.
