How to Apply
Applying to college can be a bit overwhelming with all the required information-gathering, forms and applications to complete. We want to help you avoid some of the confusion and have provided this page as a resource to help guide you through the application process. Thank you for considering NC State's Distance Education Program. We are excited you are interested in becoming a member of the Wolfpack!
Undergraduate Admissions
Prospective undergraduate students, including freshman, international, and transfer students, can find information about the admission process, placement, academic majors and minors, ways to pay for college, and visiting campus by going to the Undergraduate Admissions website.
Graduate Admissions
NC State University is a premier center for graduate study, known nationally for innovative degree programs, a world-renowned faculty, and groundbreaking collaborative research. The Graduate School is responsible for administering over 220 different graduate degrees (Master's. Ph.D., and Ed.D.) across all 10 of NC State's academic colleges.
Non-Degree Studies (NDS)
What is a Non-Degree Studies student? For those interested in taking courses without enrolling in a degree program, Distance Education offers courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels to fit higher education needs in a demanding and busy schedule. Admission to Non-Degree Studies does not imply admission to a NC State degree program. NDS students are classified as non-degree-seeking. Grades earned as a NDS student will go toward the student's NC State University grade point average or may be transferred to another institution based on that institution's transfer policy. (Consult with the DE academic advisor). Click here for information on campus-based opportunities for NDS students.
Applicants are required to pay a $25.00 non-refundable NDS application processing fee. * The application is effective for a period of one year.
Undergraduate Studies (UGS)
The Undergraduate Studies (UGS) classification is assigned to NDS students who have not earned a bachelor's degree. Many students who plan to apply for admission to an online undergraduate program often begin by enrolling first as a UGS student. Other UGS students take courses as prerequisites for admission to campus programs, to transfer, or for other reasons.
Post-Baccalaureate Studies (PBS)
The Post-Baccalaureate Studies (PBS) classification is assigned to those NDS students who have earned a bachelor's degree. Enrolling as a PBS student is an excellent way to explore different fields of study to fulfill your personal and career goals, to pursue a certificate program or teacher licensure program or to prepare to enter a master's program or doctoral program.
